1962: Born 26 May in Szczecin, Poland.
1980-83: Studied History, Philosophy, and Romance languages at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków.
1983: Studied History of Greek theatre at the École Pratique Des Hautes Études, Sorbonne, Paris.
1989-93: Diploma in Theatre Directing at the State Higher Theatre School (PWST) in Kraków.
1991: Assistant Director to Krystian Lupa on his production of Malte, based on texts by Rainer Maria Rilke, at the Stary Teatr in Kraków.
1992: Assistant director to Peter Brook on his production of Impressions de Pélleas, after the opera Peleas i Melisanda by Claude Debussy, at the Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord in Paris.
1994: Trained with Ingmar Bergman at the Kungliga Dramatiska Teatern in Stockholm, and with Giorgio Strehler at the Piccolo Teatro in Milan.
1999-2007: Regular collaborator and directing associate with TR Warszawa (Teatr Rozmaitości), Warsaw. During his association with TR, Warlikowski received numerous awards for his theatre work, including the Polish Theatre Critics’ ITI Centre Award (2003); the Polityka journal ‘Paszport’ Award (2003); Medal for Fine Arts and Humanities (France, 2003); and the Meyerhold Prize for Most Outstanding Achievement in World Theatre (2006).
2008: Awarded the Europe Theatre Prize: New Theatrical Realities, for innovation in the art of theatre.
2008-present: Founder and Artistic Director of the Nowy Teatr, Warsaw.

Małgorzata Szczęśniak: Set and costume designer. Szczęśniak graduated from the School of Fine Arts in Kraków in 1972. She studied psychology at the Jagiellonian University (1972-76) and organised art classes for children with behavioural disorders, as well as art therapy activities for people with schizophrenia, under the supervision of the psychiatrist Noemi Madejska. Having begun a PhD on the psychology of creativity, Szczęśniak transferred to a diploma in stage design (1981-84) at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, under the tutelage of Jerzy Skarżyński. After completing her studies, she left for Paris with Warlikowski. In 1992, they staged their first performance together – Auto da fé by Elias Canetti – and have continued their collaboration ever since. Szczęśniak was one of the co-founders of the Nowy Theatre in 2008, along with Warlikowski and several other long-term collaborators.

Jacek Poniedziałek: Actor and co-creator. Poniedziałek graduated in acting from the State Higher Theatre School (PWST) in Kraków in 1990, where he met Warlikowski. From 1990 to 1992, he worked with the Juliusz Słowacki Theatre, and from 1992 to 1994 with the Stary Theatre in Kraków. From 1999, he performed regularly at TR Warszawa in Warsaw, and in 2008 he became a key founding member the Nowy Theatre ensemble. He has taken lead roles in many of Warlikowski’s productions and participated extensively in the processes leading to the creation of the performances. Following his move to Warsaw, he has also featured in many films and television series.

He frequently composes music for film and theatre, notably for Warlikowski and Grzegorz Jarzyna. He has also written an opera, Ignorant i szaleniec (The Ignorant and the Madman), the premiere of which was directed by Warlikowski in 2001. In 2008, he became the Music Director of the Nowy Teatr.

Felice Ross: Lighting director. Ross was born in the USA and lives in Israel, where she has worked on many theatre projects with the Chan Theatre in Jerusalem, the Cameri Theatre and the Habima National Theatre in Tel Aviv, and the Municipal Theatre in Beer Sheva. At the latter, she encountered Warlikowski for the first time (working on The Phoenician Women by Euripides), and has subsequently collaborated on each of his performances. She also works for ballet and opera theatres, and serves as the lighting and sound director at the Centre of Theatre Art in Tel Aviv. In Poland, she has also collaborated with Grzegorz Jarzyna, Mariusz Treliński, and Roman Polański. She continues to collaborate with Warlikowski as the Lighting Director of the Nowy Teatr.

Stanisława Celińska: Actor and co-creator. Celińska made her acting debut in 1968 at the Teatr Współczesny in Warsaw and a year later she graduated in acting from the PWST in Warsaw. She made her debut in film in 1970, and has since performed in over seventy feature films and television series, notably in many of Andrzej Wajda’s films. She has performed at several Warsaw theatres (Współczesny, Nowy, Dramatyczny, and Studio), and at the Teatr Nowy in Poznań. She has received numerous awards, including the Srebrny Krzyż Zasługi (Silver Cross of Merit) in 1986. Celińska became a key collaborator of Warlikowski following their work on Quay West at the Teatr Studio in 1998.

Magdalena Cielecka: Actor and co-creator. Cielecka graduated in acting from the PWST Kraków in 1995. During her studies, she made her acting debut at the Stary Teatr and continued to collaborate with that theatre from 1995 to 2001. For her first film role, in Barbara Sass’s Pokuszenie (Temptation, 1995), she received the award for Best Actress at the twentieth Festiwal Polskich Filmów Fabularnych in Gdańsk (considered the most important film acting award in Poland). She was associated with the TR Warszawa from 2001 to 2007, collaborating regularly with Warlikowski and Grzegorz Jarzyna, and has been a core member of the Nowy Teatr ensemble since its founding in 2008.

She has developed her career as an independent theatre director, and has also taught at the State University of Music and Performing Arts in Stuttgart. She has collaborated with Warlikowski since his production of The Tempest in Stuttgart (2000), for which she received the Aleksander Zelwerowicz award for Best Actress.

Piotr Gruszczyński: Literary director and dramaturg. Gruszczyński is a theatre critic and author of an important book on recent developments in Polish theatre: Ojcobójcy. Młodsi zdolniejsi w teatrze polskim (The Father-Killers: The Younger, More Talented in Polish Theatre). He was also the editor and interlocutor in an extended series of interviews with Warlikowski published in Polish as Szekspir i uzurpator (Shakespeare and the Usurper, 2007) and in French as Théâtre écorché (Flayed Theatre, 2007). He has collaborated with the Nowy Theatre since its founding in 2008, and is jointly responsible for its artistic programme.
